Gippsland Employment Skills Training Inc. is a registered training organisation that delivers accredited and non-accredited training courses to thousands of Latrobe Valley clients.
The team of six full-time staff, three part-time outreach workers and a trainee deliver pre-accredited training funded by Adult Community and Further Education, and non-accredited training, such as digital literacy and work-readiness programs, free-of-charge.
Late last year, the organisation moved into the old Moe library building, when Latrobe City Council opened its new library on the other side of town.
To help achieve its goal of turning the old library into a new Latrobe Community Hub, GEST has received a $35,000 grant from the Latrobe Valley Authority’s Community Facility Fund.
The grant will help to upgrade the facilities, paying for room dividers to replace the old wooden library shelves and create a more flexible and user-friendly space. It covers lockable storage so clients can securely store their belongings, smart boards and 13 new computers, replacing hand-me-down computers that regularly break down.
As well as providing training, education and employment assistance, the GEST Latrobe Community Hub will create a place for local community groups who require space and community interaction.
The Latrobe Valley Authority’s Community Facility Fund supports great initiatives and projects that help to make the Latrobe Valley a great place to live and work, and to improve the health and wellbeing of those who live here.
