A golden era for Gippsland tourism

Fifteen new jobs will be created in tourism and construction following the announcement of a $300,000 grant to improve one of Gippsland’s most popular tourist attractions, the Walhalla Goldfields Railway.

Funded through the Regional Tourism and Infrastructure Fund, this grant will help bring more visitors to Gippsland, boosting visitor numbers by more than 15,000 in the long-term and increasing the amount spent in local businesses.

The Railway will use the grant to restore and convert a 1926 Melbourne tram into a self-propelled rail carriage. The project includes the construction of a storage facility, ensuring long-term security and protection from the elements. It will enable the railway to operate seven days a week for the first time.
