Six local organisations have been successful in receiving funding from Latrobe Valley Authority as part of the $20 million Community Facility Fund.
Latrobe Valley Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Karen Cain said all six projects demonstrated strong community support and will make local facilities more usable, accessible and comfortable places to use.
“We have spoken to over 100 community organisations about a range of potential projects right across the greater Latrobe Valley region and we have been really impressed by the quality of projects being proposed.”
More than $157,000 has been awarded in the latest round of funding. The successful grants are:
- $5,000 for volunteers of the Grand Ridge Rail Trail to clear, unblock, restore and replace concrete and brick culverts along the 13 km trail between Mirboo North and Boolarra to ensure the trail is usable for walkers, joggers, cyclists, visitors and horse riders for years to come;
- $24,375 to replace the competition standard sprung floor at the Warragul Gymnastics Club so that it can continue to operate for the more than 350 gymnasts who use the facility – this includes developing elite athletes, community groups and schools;
- $24,200 to replace the roof of the Maltese Community Centre at Maryvale Reserve in Morwell, so that the Maltese and broader community can continue to use the facility for social and community activities;
- $15,000 for the construction of a shelter, seating and table at Agnes Brereton Park in Traralgon for use by volunteers and weekly participants of Traralgon parkrun, as well as provide undercover space for other park users during the week;
- $64,275 to create a community space at the Latrobe Valley Racing Club in Traralgon, including resurfacing open spaces and extending an undercover area, so it can host major events such as shows, festivals, events, and other community activities; and
- $24,375 towards the cost of installing solar panels at the Yarram Football Netball Club, reducing their energy bills by approximately $6,800 per year, which will lower emissions, encourage more community use, improve the club’s financial sustainability, and lessen the fundraising effort required from volunteers and sponsors.
