New forensics hub to be built in the Valley

Today the Victorian Government announced a new state-of-the-art Victorian Police forensics hub will be built in the Latrobe Valley.

The hub, which was funded as part of the 2016-17 Victorian State Budget, will create 12 new specialist roles including biological, chemical, digital, botanical, and fingerprint analysts. The forensic hub will also employ local people in public service support roles.

This facility will help police solve crime faster – with fingerprint, DNA and drug testing taking place at the hub, instead of hours away in Melbourne.

Planning is already underway for this facility and is expected to be operational by the end of 2018.
