Empower Australia Forum 2023

15 December 2023

Shaping a resilient renewable energy workforce

The national Empower Australia Forum, held on 23 November at Lardner Park in Warragul, told the story of Gippsland’s energy history, regional capacity, and renewable energy future, alongside Australia’s national energy transition journey.

The forum attracted industry experts, employment specialists, community leaders and educators to Gippsland to discuss and plan for a future-ready workforce for the renewable energy sector in regional areas.

Designed to inspire, motivate and spark change, the day offered a mix of keynote speakers, including The Hon Brendan O'Connor MP - Federal Minister for Skills and Training, panel discussions, and workshops focused on priority actions.

Bodye Darvill, LVA’s Director Emerging Industries presented as part of the panel ‘Planning for the next decade’, a critical discussion about the work being done to understand demand and impact of a new-energy workforce within the region.

Forum organisers, the Australian Renewables Academy, will release an Action Plan in early 2024 that will:

  • Advocate nationally to work locally
  • Harness ideas in influence campaigns across State and Federal Government
  • Create collaboration across state and territory borders
  • Assist in local work and collaboration.
