Gippsland soccer goes online to kick it with Victory

Local soccer may be sidelined due to the COVID-19 crisis, but Melbourne Victory is making sure Latrobe Valley’s players and coaches are ready to bounce back with a new online skills and training program.

Delivered in partnership with the Latrobe Valley Authority, the ‘Kick It with Victory’ online resource provides participants with three weekly football sessions encouraging hibernating players to remain active at home and to learn and develop their soccer skills.

Gippslanders can learn from Victory players, coaches and academy staff via sessions designed for young people at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of the sport.

The program also includes links to upskilling courses, invites into exclusive Melbourne Victory webinars and online forums, connections with local clubs and next steps into football as well as a range of competitions and prizes.

“If you are a player, parent, coach or administrator, the site has something to engage everyone,” Melbourne Victory Manager, Community Partnerships and Engagement Tim De Graaf said.

“The club is looking forward to getting back out in the community to deliver its programs as soon as possible but in the meantime hopes the Kick it with Victory portal proves to be a useful tool for parents and kids of all ages.”

Victory is also delivering a series of online events targeting continued engagement with the game while participants are off the park.

The next session is a Melbourne Victory and GippSport podcast with Victory General Manager – Technical and Academy Drew Sherman on 19 May and a coaches’ forum with W-League head coach Jeff Hopkins on 28 May.
