Up to 80 construction jobs will be created in the Latrobe Valley as part of a $7.8 million Victorian Government investment to upgrade 224 public housing properties.
Work begins in July and continues for three years on improvements to properties in Churchill, Moe, Morwell, Newborough, Sale, Traralgon and Wurruk.
As well as creating jobs and delivering a boost to the local economy, the investment will provide higher quality homes for tenants, reduced heating and cooling costs through better insulation and building materials, and will improve the design of social housing in the region to meet current and future needs.
The Victorian Government has provided a $266 million support package for the Latrobe Valley, including $174 million for community infrastructure, $50 million for an Economic Growth Zone and $22 million for workers and businesses directly affected by the closure of Hazelwood.
The long-term support includes the establishment of the Latrobe Valley Authority to lead the Government response, identify economic development opportunities and support affected workers and businesses.
