Breaking stigma for breakfast: Latrobe Valley Youth serve up a powerful message

The March Innovation Breakfast saw the Morwell Innovation Centre full to the brim as participants soaked up the wise insights of young people and experts in the field of stigma. The advocacy and education workshop was co-designed and presented by Leanne from the Satellite Foundation, mental health researcher Rochelle Hine and three amazing humans from the Latrobe Valley, Jess, Harley and KC (pictured above).

What an event! The workshop was based on “StigmaBeat”, a series of films created by young people that aim to create positive social change to end the stigma that is often associated with mental ill health.

A powerful experience, the audience engaged in reflection, sharing and creative activities that explored both the impact of stigma on young people and ways to lead change in our personal and professional lives. It was an empowering and insightful way to start the day!

The workshop was part of the Innovation Breakfast series, a collaboration between Federation Uni, the LVA and Regional Development Victoria. For those interested in booking a “Spotlight on Intersectional Stigma” workshop, please contact the Satellite Foundation.
