Danny Bullen will tee off alongside fellow Gippslanders Mark Allen and Tim Coffey against some of the biggest names in golf at the Gippsland Super 6 tournament at Yallourn Golf Club next month.

Allen and Coffey qualified for the brand new ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia event through the Gippsland Championship and Traralgon Classic respectively earlier this year, while Bullen took out the latest amateur qualifier held at Trafalgar Golf Club.

The qualifying event was a scaled down version of the upcoming main event, involving 18 holes of strokeplay with the top eight advancing to a six hole elimination matchplay format to crown the winner.

The Gippsland Super 6 will feature high-profile athletes including Olympic golf record holder and multiple European Tour winner Marcus Fraser, former US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy and local AFL product Brendan Goddard.

Bullen has been a member of Traralgon Golf Club for 30 years and is now looking forward to his chance to compete against the pros.

“It’s very exciting, just hope my game stands up against the pressure,” Bullen said.

“My aim is to get through the first round and make the cut to advance to the second round.”

Bullen is familiar with the Yallourn golf course and believes local knowledge may give him an edge against the pros.

“I was a member at Yallourn Golf Club for a few years and was lucky enough to win their club championship during that time,” he said.

“I know the course pretty good which could help give me an edge.”

The Gippsland Super 6 tournament will be the first time the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia has visited the Gippsland area and is being held at Yallourn Golf Club on 7-10 November.

The event is being brought to the region in partnership with the Latrobe Valley Authority’s $85 million Sports and Community Initiative.
